About the Artist

My name is Alex Calhoun, and I am a seasoned chainmaille artist. From costume pieces to LARP armor, to delicate jewelry and bold accessories for daily wear, I've pretty much done them all! I have been working in chainmaille for close to 3 years now, but so far have only done pieces for friends and the LARP community.


Type of Chainmaille

My most popular works are by far my LARP armor, ranging from bracers to shirts and everything in between. For LARP armor I work in 14g Galvanized Steel which I coil by hand and cut with a drill. Cutting with a drill gives a smooth edge, allowing the rings to close better and stay in place longer than if cut with pliers.
That's not to say that I do not do other types of chainmaille! Coming in at a close second is my jewelry. I use brightly coloured aluminum rings in addition to delicate jewelry rings to create captivating and beautiful pieces. Recently I have been incorporating swarovski crystals into my more dainty pieces. It gives them a little extra sparkle and shine, and really catches people's attention. (=


What kind of chainmaille won't you do?

Nothing is off limits or beyond possibility! More complex designs obviously require careful planning and a lot of trial and error, but the end result is always worth it. If you have an idea for a piece, please do not be shy! You are more than welcome to note me or email me with questions, concerns and commission ideas. I will work with you to create a design that you absolutely love, then bring it to life before you eyes.

While I work primarily with galvanized steel and aluminum, I have access to a nearly limitless supply of many metal types including gold, silver, bronze, brass, copper, and titanium. Obviously, prices will be adjusted accordingly based on the type of metal you request and the size of the piece you desire.


So are you open for commissions?

Yes of course! I would love to work with you on a commission. My prices are reasonable and my turnaround time is quite high. When ordering most basic jewelry, pieces will be done within a a few days, sometimes even less! I ship worldwide, and I take payments via paypal only for the time being, though you are more than welcome to talk to me in regards to working out a different method of payment.
